What is an edcamp?

The Edcamp Foundation explains edcamps as "organic, participant-driven professional development." Like a good bootcamp, an edcamp expects full participation and overwhelms in the best possible way - transforming educators through training. Like a good summer camp, it thrives on fun, choice, connection, and exploration. Unlike these camps, though, fatigues, tents, dirt, fees, and long-term commitments are not required!

Participants at edcampNOMI are encouraged to come with an idea to present or discuss with fellow educators, but they also attend to learn from others. At the start of the day, participants who would like to present will write a short blurb about a session they wish to host and post it on our room grid. Other attendees will then have time to peruse the offerings and choose to go to sessions that are most relevant for them. Edcamps ensure that educators get the professional development that they need at this moment in time. There will be four offerings - two in the morning and two after lunch - to learn, share, and connect with others.

This video from the Edcamp Foundation describes the purpose and experience of an edcamp.

Why northern Michigan?

Over the last several years, educators have hosted edcamps in place like Detroit, Grand Rapids, Holland, Rochester, Novi, and Port Huron. It's time for northern Michigan to have a free opportunity to develop at our pace with our needs at the forefront!
